Bio-Fermentation: sparkle & glow
We’ll let you in on a secret: a reason our products show skin affinity and effectiveness is down to bio-fermentation we use in the creation of our range. This method has been used in the Adriatic region, our brand’s inspiration, its folk recipes and apothecaries for centuries – yet we have used the latest technology to maximise the fermentation potency and versatility in our skincare formulas.
What is fermentation? Put simply, it is a metabolic process in which compounds are broken down by micro-organisms, such as bacteria or yeast, into smaller compounds. In our case, microorganisms release enzymes that break down the molecules across key ingredients we select, which then leads to the creation of new substances that are exceptionally beneficial for skin.
Why? As the body's largest organ, skin is the first defence against the weather, pollution, UV rays, and bacteria. By using bio-fermentation, we can make the products more concentrated and easily absorbed, and its molecules smaller and more receptive to skin. Additionally, our face and body can also be a home to over 200 types of bacteria - some visiting for a while and causing mischief, and others remaining as part of our body’s ecosystem [microbiome]. The fermentation method aids the creation of prebiotics and enzymes that help remove ‘bad’ bacteria that cause acne, inflammations as well as body odour.
Discover one of our signature ferments - Lemon peel:
When the world gives us lemons, we make the most potent skincare formulas!
We use lemon peel sourced from the Italian food manufacturers - as by-products of lemonade and jam productions - that are turned into an effective skincare ingredient. The ferment is created by macerating the lemon peel and incubating it with Lactobacillus lactis bacteria. It is then further isolated to remove potential allergens.
Lemon Peel bioferment is a powerful yet gentle treatment for dark spots and discolouration caused by blemishes, sun damage and inflammations. It has a high acid content which also helps it work well as an antioxidant, to help transform dull skin and leave it looking glowingly happy.
Where you can find it?
Our Vitality Spritz helps to increase moisture and luminosity levels for a radiant, lustrous face and body. Light on skin, the potent essence provides daily nourishment, all while gluconolactone / PHA (learn more about our favourite acids here) and glycerin attract and maintain moisture levels; pomegranate enzymes help to smooth skin, and fermented seaweed protein activates cell turnover. The result? A beautifully balanced skin, boosted in resilience and radiance. Simply pat this into your skin after cleansing during both morning and evening (or whilst on the go) to reap its blissful rewards.
Skin types and Vitality Spritz benefits:
- Stressed and compromised skin: Vitality Spritz supports and replenishes skin’s microbiome so it’s better able to balance skin and protect from free radicals, boosting luminosity in the process. The gentle formula helps skin compromised by life stage factors, humid weather environment, use of strong retinols, by strengthening and sealing skin’s barrier.
- Dry and dehydrated skin: The fermented nutrient-rich product works harder for your skin, and by reducing the molecule size it has a greater “bio-availability” – meaning it’s absorbed easily and drives moisture and hydration deeper into skin.
- Combination and oily skin: Vitality Spritz mimics the skin’s cell function so it’s more in harmony with the skin without interrupting its natural process, giving it skin-soothing ability and help to gently exfoliate and keep skin clear and calm.
Extra tip: if your face or body cleanser is drying out or stripping the natural oils from skin’s surface, apply Vitality Spritz on damp skin after cleansing, and pat to rebalance and add nourishing oils.

Sparkling summer!
Inspired by the Adriatic folk recipes, try this refreshing new twist on the traditional lemonade recipe by making a sparkling fermented lemonade with honey. “Sparkling” is simply made possible by CO2 produced by friendly microbes, for a wholesome gut-friendly refreshment.
Start with the ratio of:
Lemon juice : honey : water at about 2 : 1: 1.
For example, use 4 cups of fresh lemon juice, then add 2 cups of honey, and 2 cups of water in each jar when making a batch. You can then play with the ratio of ingredients to suit your taste.
Saluti! Cheers!
