Hand-harvested from algae-rich sea basins around the Dalmatia region, this invigorating ingredient breathes the relaxation of a sea breeze into all our whole–body skin care, and works wonders for boosting our mood, too. 

Sea salt baths have been touted as a cure-all for centuries, and it’s really no wonder: the magnesium content of sea salt reduces inflammation and improves the strength of the skin barrier, which allows the rest of our targeted ingredients to work their magic. Flower of Salt is particularly special, though. It’s painstakingly harvested by hand and left unprocessed, and as such yields only a tiny crop each year. Because of this delicate procedure, Flower of Salt retains its rich crop of essential minerals, which includes magnesium and adds iodine, copper, zinc, iron, and phosphorous into the mix as well. The harvesting technique for Flower of Salt has been passed down through generations, and has remained largely unchanged since the Roman era. It’s a process that’s only performed in a few areas around the world, the Dalmatian coast being one of the finest. The salt forms through the metabolism of algae and marine micro-organisms, and then these wind-powered Adriatic sea salt basins are gently reaped of their treasure. This process limits the creation of the salt, and effectively prohibits mass production, which is excellent news for the environment. 

Sadly, the prevalence of saltmarshes has long been threatened, and their importance is often overlooked: reclaimed as farmland, eroded by violent storms and simply forgotten by many, salt flats are disappearing. Unfortunately, that means that the mudflats and marshlands that rely on their existence are also in danger, and with them the delicate organisms and ecosystems that call them home. By using our artisanal Flower of Salt, we support the local communities around the sea basins - and protect the mudflats as well. The mudflats in the Dalmatia region are home to over 280 species of birds, including two endangered species, and we’re delighted to be protecting this vulnerable ecosystem.
